 Sir George Palmer, Bart.
The death occurred at Weissenburg, Switzerland, on Tuesday afternoon of Sir George Robson Palmer, Bart., eldest son of the late Sir Charles Palmer, M. P. of Jarrow.
The late baronet, who was born on January 5, 1849, at Jesmond High Terrace, Newcastle, received his education at Harrow. For a number of years he was at Jarrow in the Works of the Palmer Shipbuilding Company, where he acted as assistant to Mr Price, the then manager. Subsequently he went abroad and settled in Italy, commencing business as a coal importer at Genoa. Sir George's business operations were successful. Six years ago or thereabouts, however, his health broke down. He underwent treatment at Weissenburg, but did not recover his previous good health, and suffered from affection of the heart. Last year he spent the winter in Bordighera, but suffered a relapse, which necessitated his return to Weissenburg, where he died. Sir George who succeeded to the Baronetcy on the death of his father in 1907, was resident abroad most of the time since his departure from Jarrow. He made periodic visits to England, the last occasion being two years ago, when he stayed a short while in Newcastle. Sir George was a Director of Messrs Bowes and partners , Newcastle. He was unmarried.
He is succeeded in the Baronetcy by Mr Alfred Molyneux Palmer his brother, who was born in 1853. Sir Alfred is a director of the Palmer Co., Jarrow and of Messrs. Bowes and Partners. He is a Justice of the Peace and a county alderman of Durham and a Justice of the peace for the borough of Jarrow. His residence is New Borough Lodge Fourstones.
