Asking the Radio Investigation Service to help

The Department of Trade and Industry operates a Radio Investigation Service, which can, in certain circumstances, help to advise television licence holders on how to improve their reception of authorlsed stations (excluding radio and television satellite stations).

Asking the RIS to visit

If when you have followed the suggestions in this booklet you are still experiencing a reception problem on your television or radio you should tell your dealer or rental company and ask them to check that your television and outside aerial and aerial lead are in good working order Their engineer may be able to diagnose and remedy the problem perhaps by fitting filters or changing the set. If this is not possible you may wish to ask the Radio investigation Service to help.

It you want the RIS to visit you to diagnose the cause of your problem you should complete the front of the form opposfle. Your dealer aerial contractor or rental company engineer should fill in the back of the form. You should then send the form with £21 to cover the cost of an RIS visit and diagnosis to the RIS district office covering the area in which you live. The form must be completed fuiw both by you and a dealen aerial contractor or your rental company otherwise fl will be returned to you.

Please note that no visit or diagnosis can be made in respect of:

  1. . Cable television. You should advise your cable TV company of any problem.
  2. . T.V. signals received by satellite dish aerial.
  3. . T.V. sets or radio receivers not connected to an external aerial.
  4. . Car radio receivers because of the unfavourable condflions in which they operate.

You may use the form to report a specific source of interference for possible P15 investigation without paying the charge. If it appears that the source may be an illegal transmitter the RIS will investigate it and let you know the result. However, RIS staff will not visit you. Remember that you need to give clear information on the location (if possible the address) and nature of the source in Section 4 of the form. The RIS cannot investigate on the basis of a generalised reference to unspecmed interference.
