This is one type of picture you will see when your set is receiving signals from two TV stations at the same time. Note that the two images are different, appearing either as though one picture has been placed on top of the other or as a changing pattern overlaying the normal picture and with distorted sound. Another common form of co-channel reception (not illustrated) appears as a venetian blind effect over your picture. Co-channel reception is due either to atmospheric conditions or to the location of your home in relation to the TV stations. For example. in the coastal areas of south and east England some programmes may be affected during the summer and occasionally during other months by continental TV stations. TV announcements are usually made when the effect is persistent over a wide area. What can be doneFor both the above causes of co-channel reception some improvement can usually be gained by fitting a difterent aerial. Ask your dealer for advice. It you think you are getting co-channel reception but no TV announcement has been made. the BBC or the IBA may be able to tell you whether the atmospheric conditions for co-channel reception are likely at that time. |
